We’re here at the Golf Lab in Vaughan where professional golfer Kyle Freer is going to teach me some lessons on how to improve my game. Let’s check it out.

CLIP- KYLE FREER
My name’s Kyle Freer, I’m an associate professional at The Golf Lab. What we’ve built here is a brand new game improvement facility.

VIZ- LONG SHOT GOLF LAB
V/O- The main business model of the Golf Lab is we’re game improvement specialists. So everything we have here in this building is designed to make you, the golfer, better. So all the tools, the putting green here, the gym, the fitness area we have, the chipping green we have in the back, the build lab where we actually build clubs to the specks that you need them so they’re perfectly fit for you…

…As well as a putting lab. So every aspect of your game is able to be first of all tested so we can give you a base line test, here’s where you are in chipping, here’s where you are hitting a golf ball, here’s where your putting is. So then as we work together and we help get you better, we can go back and look at those initial baselines that we started off with. We can actually prove to you that you’re getting better, or if you’re not getting better, we’re going to go back and figure out where we went wrong, or what it is you need to work on to help you achieve your goals.

VIZ- KYLE STARTING LESSON WITH VICTORIA
V/O- Kyle began to show me the basics on how to improve my golf technique.

CLIP- KYLE AND VICTORIA LESSON
Most people when the grip a golf club they grip the golf club in their palm. So the first thing we have to learn is that if we want to hit a golf ball far, which is what we want to do, we’ve got to learn to grip it properly.

So I’ll get you to take this hand off for me, so now what you’re going to do is you’re going to wrap that hand so you feel like your fingers are what’s holding the club. Your palm is just kind of sitting on top there. Okay? You’re going to put your other hand on, you said you want to cross them, so that’s fine, you can cross them. You naturally put that in your fingers. So right off the bat, you’re doin’ good.

Now we’re actually going to get you to line up to this golf ball and go ahead and take a swing. Just however you normally want to.

We’re going to take a look at it. Let’s see here, so we’re going to save it, and we’re going to take a look. So how do you think you look? Do you remember the other thing I talked about was posture? So we’re going to take a look at your posture. As this is rolling through I’m going to point out to you, how perfectly straight your body is there. And if you’ve ever watched golf before you’ve probably noticed that people are actually bent over when they go to hit the golf ball. And the reason is that you’re going to be able to generate the most power at 90 degrees from your spine angle.

So we’re going to grip it in our fingers, and I’m going to help you with this one. I’m going to keep the shaft on the back of your spine here. So you’re going to stand up perfectly straight…hold your arms out a little further, there you go. Okay, now we’re going to bend over and keep your head touching the shaft. Perfect. Little bit of flex in your knees for me…

Little bit better…one more time…that’s it. Keep that posture, so really feel the bend from right here, there ya go. And then you go ahead and take a swing. Back up a little bit that’s okay, and give me a little flex in your knees so you stay athletic, there ya go. Really good. Okay.

CLIP- KYLE DEMONSTRATING CHANGES ON COMPUTER SCREEN – CLOSE UP VICTORIA ON COMPUTER
Let’s take a look at both those videos and see if we’re starting to get to a picture of what looks like a little bit of a better golfer. Now in your own eyes, which one looks like she’s more ready to golf? …The one on the left. So this is how it works here. So now you’re never going to question that posture again anymore. When I’m telling you to bend over even though you probably feel like you’re bent over like this and you’re about to dive in a pool, now that you’ve had that visual feedback of “oh okay, it doesn’t look as bad as I initially thought” you’re so much more open to now learning what it’s like to swing from this position because you get that immediate visual feedback.

CLIP- KYLE CONCLUDING THE LESSON
So what this place is great for is, it’s great for learning the lesson just like were learning right now and it gives you the ability to come back, use all the same tools, and repeat what you’ve learned. You can see now how it starts to complete the circle, how all the technology that we have in here can…I mean…you’re captivated, you can’t stop looking up there… it’s really something you can take home and something that you can really kind of grab.
VICTORIA- I would never have been able to really notice that if I was actually golfing.

V/O- The state of the art radar machine, combined with a one on one lesson with a golf pro, helps you to visualize your golf performance in a way that you wouldn’t be able to see out on a real golf course. For the Vibe, I’m Victoria Poirier. Vaughan.
